FROM Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers: (23) All have sinned and come short.—Strictly, all sinned; the Apostle looking back upon an act done in past time under the old legal dispensation, without immediate reference to the present: he then goes on to say that the result of that act (as distinct from the act itself) continues on into the present. The result is that mankind, in a body, as he now sees them, and before they come within the range of the new Christian system, fall short of, miss, or fail to obtain, the glory of God. Glory of God.—What is this glory? Probably not here, as in Romans 8:18; Romans 8:21, the glory which will be inaugurated for the saints at the Parusià, or Second Coming of the Messiah—for that is something future—but, rather, something which is capable of being conferred in the present, viz., the glory which comes from the favour and approval of God. This favour and approval Jew and Gentile alike had hitherto failed to obtain, but

FROM Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers: (24) Who his own self.—This verse, like the “for you” in 1Peter 2:21, is intended to make the readers feel the claims of gratitude, not to set before them another point in which Christ was to be imitated. But at the same time it serves to enforce still more strongly the two points already mentioned—i.e., sinlessness and suffering. So far was Christ from “doing sins,” that He actually His own self bore ours, and in so doing endured the extremity of anguish “in His own body,” so that He could sympathise with the corporal chastisements of these poor servants; and “on the tree,” too, the wicked slave’s death. Bare our sins . . . on the tree.—This brings us face to face with a great mystery; and to add to the difficulty of the interpretation, almost each word is capable of being taken in several different ways. Most modern scholars are agreed to reject “on the tree,” in favour of the marginal “to,” the proper meaning of

Effulgence is giving off blinding, radiant rays of light. Effulgence is brightness taken to the extreme. You may be dazzled by it, stunned by it, or even OVERCOME BY IT. Usually used to refer to the sun or some other mega-star, effulgence can also be used more figuratively. Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers (3) Who BEING the brightness . . .—Who being the EFFULGENCE of His glory and the exact image of His substance. The first figure is familiar to us in the words of the Nicene Creed (themselves derived from this verse and a commentary upon it), “God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God.” Again striking parallels to the language present themselves in Philo, who speaks of the spirit breathed into man at his creation as an “effulgence of the Blessed and Thrice-blessed Nature”. In the well-known passage of the Book of Wisdom, “She (Wisdom) is the effulgence of the everlasting light, the unspotted mirror of the power of God, and the image of His goo

Since my mother had shared this verse with me in the early 90’s it has only grown more and more in my spirit. This is one of the most mysterious and fascinating topics of the Bible encompassing the New Creature IN Christ. The greatest part of it I find in the New Birth is that I am no longer a slave to sin. “We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin”. Romans 6:6 But hold on a minute, doesn’t that come into conflict with 1 John 1:8, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us”. Let me say one thing, it does not say that we say we DO NOT SIN because the closer you get to God the more light reveals that we do have sin, and possibly that we not only commit sin, but that part of our nature is sinful in general. But 1 John 1:9 tells us “He [God] is faithful and Just to forgive us, of our sin AND our sinful nature”. With that said we MUST Co

Discipline is for Disciples “If any man will come after me’’ (Luke 9:23) Discipleship means ‘’discipline!’’ The disciple is that one who has been taught or trained by the Master, who has come with his ignorance, superstition, and sin, to find learning, truth, and forgiveness from the Saviour. Without discipline we are not disciples, even though we profess His Name and pass for a follower of the lowly Nazarene. In an undisciplined age when liberty and license have replaced law and loyalty, there is greater need than ever before that we be disciplined to be His disciples. Discipleship requires the discipline of conversion, wherein we recognize our lost estate because of rebellion against God, and with penitence come to the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. We assent from our hearts that ‘’all we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way’’ (Isa. 53:6), that ‘’all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God’’ (Rom. 3:23), that ‘’the Scripture

New and fresh commentaries coming up for the month of April. But for NOW, Only The Good New’s. Convert/Exchange/Switch and TRANSLATE Your God-Given Time Wisely. Grace Means to Be Delivered From The Righteous Judgment’s of God Through No Actions Of our Own. For the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of an estate who went out in the morning at dawn to hire workmen for his vineyard. “Friend, I am doing you no injustice. Did you not agree with me for the price we agreed on? Take what belongs to you and go, but I choose to give to this last man hired the same as I give to you. Am I not lawfully permitted to do what I choose with what is mine? Or is your eye envious because I am generous?” So those who are last in this world shall be first in the world to come, and those who are first, will be last.”

Easter Weekend is a good time to talk about two things, Firstly the Sacrifice Jesus made on the Cross of Calvary. This was translated from Golgotha in the Biblical Greek traditionally interpreted reflecting Syriac, a western dialect of the Aramaic word golgolta. It was the Hebrew word gulgōleṯ "skull" and is the site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where Jesus was crucified. The first gives us the Why; the Second Point is Activating God’s Living Word, in Power and Demonstration, in our Love Walk. Without an activator many things can lay dormant until we mix the two ingredients. A car battery may seem like a normal usage item in today’s world but it was not discover til just before the American Civil War in 1859. Gaston Planté's lead–acid battery was the first battery that could be recharged by passing a reverse current through it. Two ingredients which laid dormant on the earth for 1000’s of years until Wisdom was given to combine them. 1 Corinthia
